LANGUAGE

Bulgaria uses the Cyrillic alphabet, and so looks very different to us. Quite a lot of Bulgarians speak some Russian, and many Bulgarian words are similar to the Russian, so a little knowledge of Russian is a definite asset. We are not sure whether speaking Russian instead of English is frowned upon or not, although this was suggested to us on one occasion. However, a lot of Bulgarians do speak a little bit of English and they don't mind trying it out nor do they mind that we don't in general speak their language.

We recently came across this course advertised below. Unlike many courses it seems to give both the Cyrillic and the phonetic for the English word.
